Welcome to Orange Skye Body and Beauty Bar!
I’ll
start out by saying my mantra is “If you aren’t having fun - you
aren’t living” and if you ask anyone who knows me- they will
definitely agree. Several years ago I read a phrase I thought was
hysterical – but in reality had a lot of truth in it. “My life’s
goal is not to die and leave a well preserved body - when I go to my
grave I want to slide in sideways, my
body completely
used up, a martini in one hand, a chocolate bar in the other
screaming, "what a GREAT ride!"
I
have always been an entrepreneur- and have owned and experienced
many different businesses in industries ranging from Advertising to
Printing to High-Tech to Internet companies to Marketing to
Consulting and others in between. Each venture came with its own
fascination and profitability - but none ever truly “fit” me or fit
what I LOVE to do. So, when I started MOON Tans in 2002, not one
person I know was surprised when my new venture was in the “beauty”
business - after all it's all about looking good! And because for me
it has always been much more about the journey than the destination,
the past few years growing MOON Tans nationally has been incredible
and very rewarding.
During the time I was expanding MOON
Tans nationally, I had the opportunity to research and attend day
spas all over the country. It has been a great opportunity to have
the inside track on the day spa industry as a whole. Visiting,
training in and enjoying spa treatments in literally hundreds of
spas over the past few years, has allowed me the ability to research
the most popular services, the highest profit margin services and
the services that most client’s were demanding. I was able to see
the issues many spas face and the main reasons they struggled or
were unprofitable. There were several significant trends I
identified: 1) Spas that were owned by working technicians were less
profitable because the owner spent too much time working IN the
business instead of ON the business. 2) Big overhead with huge
lobbies, water features, expensive furniture and equipment – these
are great but don’t pay the rent and probably the one that was the
most significant to me - 3) Spas that only wanted to cater to the
“High End Client”.
The question I had
was – WHO is catering to the “middle” client? The clients who need
relaxation and will appreciate good service, reasonable prices and a
fun but relaxing environment? I am talking about all the working
moms and dads, the teen-agers, the professionals, the
thirty-something’s. NO ONE! And, by the way, a hair salon that
offers massage doesn’t qualify in my mind as a “spa”. Armed with
this new found information – I opened the first Orange Skye Body and
Beauty Bar to see if all of my observations were correct. Indeed,
there IS a huge untapped market in the day spa industry – a spa that
offers the “lifestyle maintenance” services which ARE the services
that will grow a strong client base and ultimately be the foundation
of your day spa. Lifestyle maintenance services are the services
that will drive clients through your doors and if you offer a great
environment, reasonable prices and impeccable service you will keep
them there.
This is an
